What is an NCT Test?

The National Car Test (NCT) is a check of basic requirements on your car. It checks components which are visible and accessible. It doesn’t absolve a vehicle owner of the responsibility to ensure a car is roadworthy at all times, or the regular maintenance programme that keeps a vehicle running safely and efficiently. Defects found must be repaired and the car must pass a re-test before the car owner can be issued with an NCT Certificate.

An NCT check is required every 2 years for vehicles younger than 10 years old. Vehicles 10 years old or more are due for an NCT inspection annually.
